Governor McDonnell's Cabinet Tours the State on "Virginia: Growing Strong" Tour
– Governor's Cabinet to Visit Every Region of the State May 7 - May 12 –
RICHMOND - In conjunction with Governor Bob McDonnell's "Virginia: Growing Strong" weeklong statewide tour taking place May 7 through May 12, Governor McDonnell's cabinet will travel across the state meeting with stakeholders and highlighting the successes achieved since the start of the McDonnell administration. Over the next week, cabinet secretaries will hold more than 50 events and meetings all across the Commonwealth.
Speaking about the cabinet's participation in the tour, Governor McDonnell commented, "Virginia is full of good news right now, with our unemployment rate down to the lowest in over three years, record agricultural products exported in 2011, blue crabs in the Chesapeake Bay at a nearly 20-year high and new legislative initiatives passed this year that will increase access to a high-quality K-12 and higher education, bring new private-sector jobs to Virginia, make our streets safer, and make Virginia's government smaller and more efficient. This is good news that we want to share with all Virginians. That is why my cabinet is criss-crossing the Commonwealth, from Blackstone to Abingdon to Tangier Island, to talk about the 'Commonwealth of Opportunity' that we have today. While on the road, secretaries will celebrate all of the accomplishments Virginians have achieved over the last three years. They look forward to visiting with entrepreneurs, local officials, state employees, public safety personnel, members of the military and parents and children in every corner of the Commonwealth over the next week."
All of the events listed below are open to the press. Media is invited and encouraged to attend. For more information on the events listed, please contact the governor's press office. A schedule with the governor's events for the week is available here: http://www.governor.virginia.gov/News/viewRelease.cfm?id=1241
