The Virginia Tech Day of Remembrance Ceremony will take place tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. at the Capitol Square Bell Tower marking the 6th anniversary of the tragedy at Virginia Tech. Lieutenant Governor Bolling will lead the state ceremony. At 9:43 a.m. there will be an official moment of silence observed in the Commonwealth, followed by the ringing of the Capitol Square Bell Tower once for each victim of the tragedy.

Connecticut Governor Dan Malloy has issued a proclamation declaring this Friday as a Day of Mourning in Connecticut and called upon all citizens of that state to observe a moment of silence at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. Governor Malloy has also asked Connecticut places of worship and government buildings, which have the ability, to ring bells 26 times during that moment of silence. Governor McDonnell has also issued a day of mourning proclamation for Dec. 21.

There is some uncertainty with the storm's final track, but all forecasts call for significant impacts to Virginia. Sandy will be transitioning to an extratropical storm as it reaches Virginia, leading to a broader wind field with a wider reach across the Commonwealth. In addition, current models predict a slower storm and therefore a longer duration event than usual.

Governor McDonnell has also charged regulatory agencies to conduct a comprehensive review of regulations currently in place and repeal regulations that are unnecessary or no longer in use, reduce unnecessary regulatory burdens on individuals, businesses, and other regulated groups, and identify statutes that require unnecessary or overly burdensome regulations. The initiative is an extension of Governor McDonnell's efforts as Attorney General to eliminate unnecessary and burdensome regulations through his Task Force on Regulatory and Government Reform. The task force made more than 300 recommendations to streamline Virginia's Administrative Code, and reduce burdensome government regulation.
